My guess is that you've never been to Mexico, but you're buying into what other people are saying about it. I've done my research, I've driven through 18 of the 31 states in Mexico, and I plan to retire there in two years (I spent 18 months in Viet Nam and I got zero bullet holes and I expect to get the same number in my retirement years in Mexico). I know that 95 percent of the Mexican people are decent hard-working people. I know that 3 percent are in the drug trade because of America's insatiable appetite for drugs. If you avoid the Mexican states that border the USA:
Baja California
Sonora
Chihuahua
Coahuila
Nevo Leon
Tamaulipas
Mexico is safer than most large cities in the US. I feel safer in Mexico than I do In Washington DC, Houston or LA..

I think the USA is pumping up the volume on the border problems to get people to stay home and spend more money in Florida, South Padre Island and the other Gulf state beaches rather than taking it to Mexico.

The National Guard is leaving New Orleans. Maybe a travel advisory is needed there too. The locals are certainly concerned.

Oh for heaven sake. Unless you are selling or carrying drugs, you are as safe as you are in any comparable sized US city. Safer than some. They don't target gringos, fortunately they target each other.

Since 90% of the drugs are sold in the US and 90% of the guns are gotten in the US, mostly Texas, maybe you guys need to clean up your act first.

I heard in the news this morning that people really need to be carefull if they go to mexico this year cuz of all the killing that is goin on... I know a lot of people are still deciding to go, but they should really be careful and beware of your surrondings. Please dont get drunk if you dont know where you are.

I agree with rhino - actually, the really unsafe places are the border cities. For example, Tijuana - not Baja California entirely. And BTW some Chilean students were shot&killed a couple of days ago near Pensacola, Florida... :(
