As a Canadian do I need a passport to go to Mexico if I have a direct flight from Canada to Mexico? |
I do not have a passport but I have driver's licence, health card, birth certificate, etc. Will this cause a problem getting to or home from Mexico? |

We go to Mexico for 3 mos each year.
Get a passport NOW!
Why do so many Canadians and Americans have a problem with getting a passport????
I don't care what official country websites say about required docs.
You get that immigration official (who has never seen his countries website) on a bad day and you have no passport....good luck. They need to stamp somthing and they aint going to do it on anything that you have mentioned |

I do not believe you will not be allowed on an international flight without a passport. You can call the airline and ask to confirm this. |

You don't need one, but make sure you have all of your other documents in order before you leave:
-Birth Certificate
-Driver's license
-Another Gov't issued photo ID (Health Card for example)
it wouldn't hurt to carry along your SIN number card
I have been on flights that get re-directed to a stop in the USA because of a number of reasons (weather, airline scheduling etc..). To avoid hassles, get yourself a passport and get a rush put on it. It will only be an extra $30 or so and you can get it in 2 days or less if you need to (it costs a bit more)
This is what the government of Canada website has to say about traveling to Mexico:
"Canadians are not required to carry a passport to enter Mexico. However, in order to avoid delays and misunderstandings, we strongly recommend that you travel with a passport valid for six months after your arrival date. It is the only universally accepted identification document, and it proves that you have a right to return to Canada. A lost or stolen passport is also easier to replace when outside of Canada than other evidence of citizenship." <>http://www.voyage.gc.ca/dest/report-en.asp?country=184000> |

You do not need one, but I do recommend it. I fly to Mexico City three or four times a year and it is ALWAYS asked for in customs. A lot of the agents do not speak english, they will just say passaporte and point to a line on the visa where you are to sign. I hope you have a great trip! |

Passports are issued by your own countries, it's a requirment of your own countries so they know no one felon or something will be getting out of their country, so i guess you have to get your passport ( yeah kinda annoying but it's just a mere tramit)... good luck with that, btw as far as i know you wouln't be needing a visa or something just the passport. |

Hola. Even though the gov't recommends you have a valid passport for any international travel outside of Canada, you are still okay to use the ID you mentioned for any direct flight to Mexico from Canada...but this will change really soon, so start the process of getting one at least --- go to the passport website, especially if you plan to travel after the new year. I also noticed last time I went to Cabo that the mexican officials really grilled the Canadians without a ppt. They let them in and stamped their tourist card, but...better safe than sorry...you do NOT want to be detained in mexico!
Any flight that goes through the USA requires a passport - in fact the airline requires you to enter the number as you purchase tickets online. |

If you're on a direct flight from Canada to Mexico, then your proof of idenity (ie: driver's license, birth certificate, etc..) are sufficient. Until the U.S. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative fully implements the Passport rule, you'll be OK with your ID. Personally, though, I would go ahead and apply for a Passport because you're going to need it sooner or later. |
