You've got a variety of things to do in the area. Stroll the malecon, go to the plaza at the end on weekends as they usually have something going on (Music fair, Tequila Festival, Fashion Show, Mariachi's, Swap Meets), etc....
Walk a block or two away from the malecon and you can find several good restaurants.
Jungle trips, para-gliding, dancing, stroll around the marina.
If adventurous, take some short bus trips.....Tepic in the next state is the capitol but also a nice bus ride and lots of sightseeing.
Take a bus out to Punta de Mita at the far end of Banderas Bay. Eat lunch on the beach under a canopy and have the surf wash over your feet as you finish off a nice cool drink.
Not far up the coast from there is Sayulita. Nice restaurants (open air), nice beach, lots of Canadians and Americans vacation there or live there part time. Same with Bucerias which is north of PV airport a few miles. Also, a trip over to Paradise Village.
South you have Mismaloya and a short bus trip to El Tuito....a very quiet, laid back town.
Old town in PV is nice to window shop and visit the bazaar there.
Remember, everythings negotiable as long as you're pleasant and nice.
We rented a car through the internet when we there one time and got a nice little sedan for $99 a week, unlimited mileage. Would you believe we put over 1,500 kilometers on it. We drove south as far Manzanillo and north as far as San Blas.
You can go inland, also, over to Mescota and up the hill and down in the valley to Talpa de Allende. Nice day trips, great shopping, lots of local culture and both off the beaten path, for the most part.
If I remember right, October should have heavy rains in the late afternoon with lots of lightning and thunder. But don't let that stop you. They'll usually blow through in an hour or so and although the downpour is heavy and strets get like small rivers, when we get "caught" in one, we hole up in a small cafe or restaurant someplace and drink coffee (or whatever) until it's safe to drive again.
Folks are friendly and many speak English although if you could learn a few Spanish phrases like Hola, Buenos Dias, Buenos Tardes, Gracias, etc., it'll help a lot.
Check out numerous websites on learning simple or conversational Spanish. Remember, they're just as afraid of using English incorrectly as you are of using Spanish incorrectly.

You can try the canopy in El Eden here is a link so that you can check it out! http://www.canopyeleden.com/ Also if you like animals, on the way to the canopy is the Vallarta Zoo. My uncles are actually the owners of it and right now the zoo has a baby lion that people can play with and take pictures with. Right now the White tiger, Bengal tiger, Lion, Puma, and Black Panthers are pregnant and by the time that you get there they may have been born too. Well here is the link for that as well! http://zoologicodevallarta.com/ And for some night life check out downtown (The Malecon) Good luck and have fun on ur trip!!

Snorkle, eat at fine dining restaurants, make sweet love to each other, go dancing at the local nightspots, etc.

Vallarta adventures "Rhythms of the Night". Very romantic.
Stroll the malecon downtown on sunday evening with all the local families, arts and crafts displays, performers and food vendors.
Spend a day at Yelapa, a small fishing village and hippie hangout on the south side of the bay. you can catch a water taxi at Los Muertos pier to take you there. While there, you can rent horses to ride up to the waterfall.
More adventurous? Try one of several canopy tours.
There are anumber of snorkle tours. The ones to the Marietas Islands are the best, imo. Vallarta Adventures and Geronimo are 2 good ones.
There are too many great restaurants to list but for a nice romantic dinner, try La Palapa on Los Muertos beach.
Just scratching the surface here. Hope you have a wonderful honeymoon.
