Looking to fly into Acapulco, but want to find a nice beach away from the bustle of the city, preferably within a 2 hour drive. Any suggestions? |

Drive North but about 3 to maybe 4 hous and hit Zihuatanejo.
Worth the drive and no hustle / bustle , beautiful and the only real activity is relaxing on the beach. They have some good resturants , no real shopping. |

Ixtapa is nice but it's still a touristic place with hotels and stuff...... if this is what you're looking for, then go for it -- you could even fly there directly without having to fly to Acapulco first and then drive..... but from your question I assumed you were rather looking for a single beach close to Acapulco where you could spend the day (away from the rest of the tourists) and then go back to Acapulco cuz this is where you're gonna be staying at...... if this is the case, I recommend BARRA VIEJA, this is a beach about 1/2 hr. away from Acapulco driving towards the airport. You go past the airport and there's a detour (to the right, clearly signaled) that will take you there. You drive a few KM's and you will start finding small places to eat, you can go inside and park in any of those and have a wonderful meal (fresh seafood), and then relax on the beach (they usually have hammocks at these places where you can rest for a while)..... the beach here is on the open ocean so it's a bit dangerous to swim, the waves are very high (although I do go in the ocean when I come here, but stay very close to the beach because the tide can drag you very quickly). But the sand is great, it's secluded and lonely as there are no buildings there except for these little beach front "restaurants", and the sunsets here are wonderful as well. Enjoy your stay..... |
