Sorry, since January 2006 you can no longer climb El Castillo or the top of most monuments. I think someone fell and died.

Have a great trip any way. Enjoy)

There are 91 stairs on each side. 91 x 4 sides = 364, + 1 top stair, for 365, the number of days in the year. Mayans were great astronomers. I don't think people are allowed to climb the stairs anymore.

people used to be able to climb them in fact i did and it was really great. but nowadays people are not allowed beacause it damages the pyramid and they want to preserve it as long as possible

You used to be able to climb but I think since it's a new wonder they prohibited it, but i'm not sure I just heard it somewhere and if you can it's not dangerous, I don't know how many stairs do you have to climb but you'll end up tired I can tell you that. But you'll enjoy it and not die if you do it! =D

Apparently you have to stay off of the steps. I would stay out of the cenote as well. I hear that young ladies have met an unfortunate demise there.

stella39 is right a tourist fell and died, since then is prohibited to climb the stairs.

Vaggaloor
You can climb them. I didn't, I was kind of scared...
