Can I get a permit for my truck to enter Mexico if I have only a copy of the title?
I am moving to Mexico next year. I will be taking my truck with me. The bank loan won't be paid off by then meaning I have a only a copy of the vehicle title. Will that be sufficient to get my vehicle permit?
If there is a lienholder listed then you need a permission letter. You need to contact your lender for this.
A copy of the title is ok. It's been a few years, but I just used a copy of my registration to enter Mexico with my car.
Many registrations don't list the lienholder and you could technically go without a letter, but I don't advise it. It could put you out of your contractual obligations with your loan company.
Also realize that from the perspective of the lienholder, once the car is in Mexico, it could be gone forever. Its vehicle permit can be renewed almost perpetually, it doesn't need to have a current registration, it can't be repossessed.

You might also want to check with the Loan company to see if you can take your vehicle. I know years ago you needed an approval letter from them but I don't know if they've changed requirements.

"Marci" is correct about you needing a letter from the bank your car loan is with giving you permission to take the car to Mexico. You actually do not need the copy of the title...it is meaningless since the bank actually still owns the car. See site below for all car permit info. You follow it and you will be fine. By the way...it is strange that your question attracted such totally loony answers from a couple of people...wierdos.

You don't need a Title. You need a current registration with you as the sole owner ... or a notarized letter from the lien holder allowing you to take the car to Mexico

No it is not enough. You will need a notarized letter of permission from the lean holder stating that you have permission to take the vehicle out of the country.
marci knows best
Nope. You must have a copy of the title PLUS a notarized letter from your bank giving you permission to take the car into Mexico.
Before your come read "Head for Mexico" by Don Adams. It will answer your questions plus tell you a lot of stuff you never knew you needed to know.

That is enough to get your truck into Mexico. Imagine if there was a law that if you had not paid off your car/truck you could not enter another country. Do not worry you won't have a problem. Just keep paying your loan.
