I taught Engles in Mexico at three differant schools in Oaxaca and I didn't have any kind of certificate at all.It depends on the school and the owners I would say, for example one of the schools that I taught at has other chains through out Mexico but it could be differant in other places. Some of the more higher ritzy schools do require something in the line of certification but if you just want to try it out go to the smaller types of schools.( less ritzy). |

I used to teach English in Guadalajara and some schools require more than others. Check websites such as Berlitz, Wall St., Proulex, etc and send emails to find out the teaching requirements. There are many schools in Guadalajara and not enough native speakers. Sometimes schools will overlook your lack of a certificate if you have sufficient experience, others will not. Many Mexican schools follow the rules to the extreme. Good luck, you will enjoy GDL. |

I think most places in Mexico recommend either a degree from some college/university or a teaching certificate. But most are given preference to native english speakers from English-speaking countries, like the US with a degree from some college/university or a teaching certificate. |

It's suggested to have a TESOL or equivalent, but if you can prove your credentials by doing, you are set.
In México most of the guys who normally teach have already attended a course called 'teachers' that supposedly enables them to teach english as a second language. There's lots of academies that would like to hire you --- in Mexico it is really appreciated if you speak english as a native --- serious english learners do prefer that. Business english is also in demand, you just need to check where you plan to work. |

you can, just go find a school like a middle school there which is a escuela secundaria but they do required a degree from a college, but anyways just get that sort out and you will be able to teach english in mexico also try to learn a little bit of espanol cause your gonna have to need in order to talk to the principle or director from the school |

You do not need to know Spanish to teach English. I am an ESL teacher in the US. Most English teachers never use the students' native language. I do use Spanish, but few others do. We have students whose native languages vary Some come in only knowing Spanish, Portuguese, Laotian, Chinese, Vietnamese or Punjabi. Obviously the teachers do not know all these languages.
Knowing Spanish, especially understanding its grammar is useful, but not necessary.
Native English teachers are recruited to teach in countries throughout the world. Knowing the native language is rarely a requirement.
Different schools in Mexico require different qualifications. Some people are hired with the only qualification being that English is their native language. You have the advantage of having teaching experience.
You will find the most opportunities in cities that have a strong commercial base. |
