Passports are required to FLY to and from Mexico. They are not YET needed to r=travel by LAND to MExico. See 1st site below. See 2nd site for passport application info...cost is $97.00, tkes 4 to 6 weeks. Expediting costs $60.00 and express mail fees and takes 2 to 3 weeks. |

You MUST have a passport if you travel to/from Mexico by air or ship.
If you cross via automobile or on foot, you must have a government issued ID and a certified copy of birth certificate (or two forms of government issued ID like driver's license, military ID, etc).
It costs about $100 and takes several weeks or months. If you want it quicker (ie expedited) you will pay $200 and get it back in a shorter period of time. |

Actually hun what you can do now if get a passport card that is a bit cheaper. Now that is only good if you are not flying into or out of Mexico.
Here is a link to find out more info about the card:

If you want to risk you chance of being caught. But I would recommend taking a passport. Its very important when travelling. It takes about a month to get a passport. Depends on the bussiness. Hope you have fun at Mexico!!! :D |

I went to Guanajuato Mexico with my 6 month old daughter and lived there for 2 months. I took the bus there and flew back. Neither one of us needed a passport. Just a birth certificate for her and a birth certificate and my drivers license for myself. I've also been 2 more times since then. I drove there twice and came back on the bus both times. All I ever needed was a birth certificate and my license. Have fun. |

I don't think you can travel anywhere out of the country without one now a days. And it takes like 4-8 weeks or something I think? Ask your post office. |

If you go to your post office TODAY with about $200.00 you can get a passport USUALLY in about a month...
You pay $15.00 for the 2 official photos...
$69.00 for processing...
Um... A bit more for Expidited Service...
All in all it comes out to between $100.00 and $150.00.
You need a copy of your birth cert. and you can find the forms online to have them filled out before you go... That saves a LOT of time... Just Google "Passports" and make sure you are going to a .gov site and you will know it is real...
Don't use one of those companies that says they will "Do everything for you and get it in half the time".
They are a scam...
It takes like 4 pages of doc's filled out and a trip to the post office and you mail it all in and you are done...
You would end up paying them like, $50.00 to print out the official forms for you and drop it all in the mail.
Good luck! |

Yes you can, but you will not be able to come back, it is now a requirement to have a passport to come back to the USA.
P.S. Born in east LA? |

You could probably get into Mexico without a passport, but good luck getting back into the US!
They cost around $100 and take a month or two to get - but I heard that they were backed up, so it may take longer...
ps: Someone else already asked this question, and it was resolved... maybe next time you could try checking previous questions first? |

nope it is even recommended having one when taking a cruise too in case you need to be flown off the ship for an emergency. |

No I don't think you can go there without a passport. March 29th. You might be able to go to some post offices and get a speedy passport but you might need to pay a little more to get it. |

NO U CAN'T, U CAN BUT U MIGHT GET IN A LIL TROUBLE OR MAYBE GET FINED, I SUGGEST U DON'T GO IF U DON'T HAVE ONE. IT TAKES ABOUT 3 WEEKS TO A MONTH,, IT ALL DEPENDS THE MORE U PAY FOR IT THE FASTER U'LL GET IT. |
|

You can also pay more money and have it expidited by going to an office in person. |

I think you can travel past mexico w/o a passport no problem. However, you need your passport big time getting back across the border. They need to make sure no illegal immigrants get across. It takes about a month to 6 weeks to get a passport. |

It depends, I went to Laredo about a year ago with my daughter (BIG MISTAKE, BTW), but we didn't need a passport or even a Visa, but then again we were just going on the other side of the border for a day...if you're going longer, I'd call the consulate and ask them to make sure.
