Can You Drive to Cancun Mexico ?

ok, i totally wanted to do this with my boyfriend, from aguascalientes (central mexico, were we lived) to cancun, and he absolutely was NOT having it. i thought it would be "cool" and adventurous, but he being mexican...said it would be insane. he said the roads are awful, it would take days and days...but on the map, it only looks like 10 hours away!!! .....but it's not because of the curvey roads. also, he said we were pretty much guarenteed to get robbed. well....maybe he wouldn't, but if i was to go alone, or with some girlfriends...yeah, robbed.

so...this sounds really fun and like a very cool adventure...but being that you don't know much about it, you really don't realize how much danger you are putting yourself into. so...ignorance is bliss sometimes, and then sometimes it can get you shot on the side of the road.

YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! You didn't know that!! wow!! I've done it before with my friends and family except we live in Maryland and it took us about 3 days driving.

Trust me, in this case you're safer flying to Cancun than driving through the rural, under-developed, high-crime, uncivilized parts of the "Sierra Madre del Sur" and the Yucatan jungles; not to mention all the time you would waste and the sightseeing that would disappoint you. Let me put it to you this way, even people that live in Mexico don't drive to Cancun! LOL! I've been through some bad parts of Mexico, but even those, are not as bad as that whole area that's on the way to Cancun!

you can drive it but it would be one heck of a drive..... BUT I BET IT WOULD BE THE BEST MEMORY YOU HAD TO DATE WHAT AN ADVENTURE THAT WOULD BE!!!!!!! Would like to be a fly on the ceiling for that trip...

its a 42 hour drive from dallas, texas. And dallas to illonois is like 17 hourss so thats like a 59 hour drive from illonios to cancun.

Well theres a few things here you need to know....1st is the car paid off for you to travel in it in Mexico..If not you have to have a notarized letter stating that you can take it into Mexico...Then if its a nice car be VERY aware of all of the Topes (speed bumps) and wacos (pot holes) That can be everywhere...Also the road I travel was a highway but it went through pueblos (little communities)...So be aware its not like getting on the highway in the US and just going fast...But if you have a spanish speaker and you all really want to do this ...weigh your options first and read up on your trip..I really wouldnt travel at night though...In the end if your going to do it stay safe....I travel to Cancun by plane every year and its not that expensive....You could always take xanax or something before geting on the plane.....I always drive in Mexico and I havent been pulled over yet...( I hope I dont get it this year for saying that...lol...)

sure you can. Get a good guide book like the Lonely Planet. Expect to get pulled over and "fined" for speeding or whatever. Just smile and pay up. Sometimes you can bargain a little. But if you get up the nerve to fly, Cancun is one of the cheapest flights to Mexico or to get close to Central America. Fly there and then take the buses soputh for some great adventuires in Guatemala, Belize and Honduras.

im driving to mexico with my friend on december, becarefull and make sure that you dont get robbed on the road, i heard i dangerouse specially if you have a nice car and plates from usa. the only reason we are driving is cause we mexicans so we figure we be alright but we still going to be carefull, i'll fly if i was you though
