I've never heard about going to the border, but there are places that expedite passports and you can get your passport from certain places in 24 hours.
There are tons of places on the internet,

http://www.passportexpress.com (I haven't used either so I can't tell you if they are good or bad)

but there probably is a place where you live that will also do it the same day. It's NOT cheap I had to get my passport fast as well, but I did the two week option and I *THINK* it was around 176 dollars or so. If you are going to get in In 24 hours expect to pay well over 200 dollars and if you are going to do a same day place it might be 300 or so.
Where to go varies from area to area though, asking here is a great way to find out where to get yours done, might help people if you listed your state nd/or nearest large city.
Passports are usually valid for about 15 years if I'm not mistaken. |

No you can only obtain the U.S. passport in Mexico City at the American Embassy and it takes 2 months to get issued. You have to be checked by the U.S. authorities, CIA, FBI, state of residency to see if you haven't committed any crimes. The validity used to be for 10 years, not anymore. It varies, depending on profile issues.The cost is around 150 dlls. |

you can apply for a rush passport for travel purpose but i believe its still 24-48 hours and its not cheap. i believe reg passport fees re aronund 150-200. i looked into it soem time ago. you only need a passport to visit mexico by boat or air...you can still use US ID if you are traveling by car or foot. |

i got my passport by highring a agent to the paper work for but it was in a diff. country were i caome from cuz i am not good at that paper stuff took me 2 moths to get it by mial or u can go the ambesy and aply for one as a rush travl and u can gothere to pick it up in 48 hours and it will cost like crazy money but if u need it fast try rush hing

I don't think that you can obtain it there, very unlikely since it's a passport. Even if you can I doubt that it would be available right then. |
