Can few of you tell me what the difference between Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlan is? Which is "better?"

I'm traveling to Mexico with my girlfriend in October. Just not sure where. Been to the Mayan Riv. a bunch and were looking for somewhere a little differrent. IIf you've been to Cabo AND Mazatlan, please let me know the good and bad of both. Been researching this pretty good and Mazatlan seems a little more fun with more things to do, but I'm just not sure.

Thanks!

Mazatlan will give you a much better "taste of Mexico" than the Americanised Cabo San Lucas will. The people are warm and friendly, the food is amazing, and the beaches are gorgeous! Check out Bora Bora night club (if you're into that stuff) as it's the best one in town and head into Old Mazatlan for dinner one night, the food is fantastic!

Cabo is very Americanized and expensive, like Cancun. Mazatlan is a working city from before tourists ever started showing up there. Away from the resorts along the beach it's sprawling and polluted. Nice beaches though and much less expensive than Cabo. Personally, I prefer Puerto Vallarta by far.

Depends on what you're looking for. As most above have stated Mazatlan is more "authentic". It's also larger with a greater variety of things to do. In my opinion it's also dirtier and more "complicated" if that makes sense.

Cabo is more "American" but that might be what you're looking for. It's smaller and much more quaint. Do you golf? Cabo has some great courses but they tend to be expensive. Both have deep sea fishing I think (I know Cabo does.) Mazatlan has a better night life but Cabo has some nice bars and clubs as well. (Cabo Wabo, The Giggling Marlin, Squid Roe...although it's been awhile, not sure if they're still there.)

So in the end it all depends on what you and your girl are looking for.

Cabo is very americanized, is also smaller than Mazatlan,

Mazatlan is a mid size city and an old resort, Older than Cancun, Puerto Vallarta almost as old as Acapulco, there is a lot to do, and you will experience more of traditional Mexico

Cabo has a lot of new hotels, is oriented to rich people but you still find it a lot of fun, so it really depends what your looking for.

In this Mexican Riviera island , of course Acapulco is the no.1 then followed always by Mazatlan.Cabo is a little bit smaller, congested and very influenced of American ways of giving hospitality by the locals. In Mazatlan still you will feel that you are in old Mexican Riviera like when they just started the famous Senior frog.Beaches are great. Enjoy your travel.
