Resorts will be happy to take them. But if you go to restaurants or night clubs off resort, you'll pay a lot less for whatever you purchase if you use Mexican currency. Try to get a currency exchange rate before you go. And an explanation of what the currency is. Sometime your resort will have that information. |

Some places might but you generally will pay more than if you were using pesos...after all, why should the Mexicans accept USD when their currency is Mexican pesos.
If you want to travel to Mexico, how about behaving as though you're abroad and not still in the US? |

You can, but you may lose value when they give you your change based on their exchange rate, the Peso is the best to use

As you mention resorts, I assume you mean main tourist places such as Cancun. In Mexico City and Puebla for example there are many place which will not except dollars. |

Dollars are accepted every where. We have never had $$ refused in Mexico. Being American, it's easier for us to use dollars. I was told to make sure the dollars are in good condition, no rips or tears in the bills. The locals have a hard time cashing these kind of bills at the stores or bank.) |
