+Yes you can still come to Cancun.

+No they won't be closing borders.

+Yes they will still be letting people in and out of the country.

+There has only been 1 case of "possible" swine/human flu in Cancun.

+Swine/Human flu is curable

+The hotels, restaurants, and clubs are taking extra hygiene measures and they are all disinfected everyday.

+It's more likely you'll die by the stomach flu than by the swine/human flu. LOL

This whole thing should be over by June. I just recently came back from Mexico City because I had to help out with the prevention stuff over there. I thought I was gonna see people DIEING in the streets from the flu, people sick everywhere, and I thought it would be like Resident evil from all the stuff I've heard in the news.

When I got there it wasn't bad at all, 1/10 people were actually wearing surgical masks, I never saw a case of swine/human flu, I never GOT IT, and the people over there were doing the stuff they normally do.

As for Cancun, well, I haven't seen anyone who even has a cold. I'm more scared of getting STD's from a girl than of the swine flu haha. There is really no danger, the sutation is just like always, beach, drink, dance, hotel, and you know the rest :]. Lately the clubs have been closed but they're making beach parties now! Foam parties on the beach kick *ss!

By Mid Summer all of this should be over, Clubs should be back to normal, everyone getting crazy again, and good ol' partying everywhere.

The situation isn't as bad as the media makes it sound like. When it comes to foreign countries they start to exaggerate and crap. Right now, you're more likely to get swine/human flu in the US than in Cancun. There's more cases of it in the US than Mexico :O!

If the situation actually gets bad, they won't even let u in the country but if the country is still letting people in then it's really not bad at all.
Chill and relax, start packin a bag cause you're ready to enjoy America's Ibiza!

By June this will be a memory.

There are no forced travel restrictions. You are still free to go if you want to, and there will be bargains to be had!

Cancun has not been affected by this current flu situation, but there is some flu or other moving around the world at any given time. There is no real reason for all this hysteria now.

On the other hand... it depends on how much grief your parents will give you. There is nothing "magical" about going in June... except that it is a traditional time for a lot of other kids to be there. You need to examine all your options and then decide.

But as far as Cancun goes... there is no reason not to go there.

There is no reason not to come today. There is NO Health RISK in the Cancun area at all. There are NO Travel Alerts are issued for this area at all. Cancun is open and doing business as usual. The strong swine type of flu is all over the world now, not just Mexico City. The W.H.O. says, "To restrict travel would be useless and not helpful". E-mail me directly in Cancun at robert@cancuncatamarans.com I have lived here 8 years. 1-888-335-1996 Anyone that says Mexico is not safe is an uninformed fear-monger and not a very smart person. They are only out to spread fear without knowing the facts, plain and simple.

One more thing, the idiots that write uninformed lies like, (people aren't allowed out of Mexico) or (there is flu everywhere), or all the other lies here about restrictions, deaths etc, need to get a life.

I agree with your parents. Just keep watching out and decide later. In the meantime you should call your travel insurance, if you have it, and ask them what would happen in terms of reimbursing or postponing your trip. You could also call the airline and the hotel and ask what their cancellation policy is for the swine flu. Some are making changes to their usual policy. It could die down and your trip could be fine but it could also get worse. Prepare for both situations by doing your research on the travel policies.

As far as advice on whether to go or not, right now its not recommended to go there. That could change in a month. Watch the news for changes in travel advisories, and even talk to your doctor.

It's probably not the best idea. Although, I don't know why everyone's so freaked out about this. 36,000 people die a year from the regular flu, and so far, less than 15 people have died in the U.S. from this on.
