Dude, play it safe, don't drink tap water, just buy some bottled water, it's real cheap down there, but don't worry too much about it like the other guy suggests, about not brushing your teeth with it and closing your eyes, that's crap!
I spend 6 months out of every year there, just avoid the tap water, and the homemade drinks they sell on the street, and you'll be o.k., enjoy your trip. |

A lot of places in Mexico now have filtered water. However, this is only true for vacation spots like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, etc. I strongly recommend that you drink purified or bottled water. |

I would not recommend it unless you have a defecation fetish. |

YES AND NO.
In some areas like my house the water is really clean and in some places it isn't.
In the hotels all the water is purified. |

You can.
A few days later you will have cramps, fever, and diarrhea.
Watch out for ice cubes!
Don't brush your teeth with tap water.
Keep your mouth and eyes closed in the shower.
Enjoy your trip! |

No, you can not drink the water in Mexico City. I lived in Mexico for many years and although it may not harm you it can contain different bacteria. That bacteria will not kill you but can contribute to amoebas and other diseases. The chances of cholera, typhoid and major illnesses are rare. |

They can, you can't. Your system is used to your water. There are different parasites and critters that you have not built up immunity against. It's the old, why could the native Americans drink from stream and lakes and we can't? |

I would not recommend drinking the water.
Be careful what you order too... remember that in many restaurants they wash vegetables and fruit using tap water... so try to stay away from anything that is not cooked or anything that has a flesh skin (hard shelled fruit, like coconut or pineapple are usually fine to eat).
In addition, be careful to buy water from stand-up coolers. Buying from some vendors who use ice to keep water (and other refreshments) cold. Ice is made from tap water! |

whenever we go, we always buy bottled water or boil filtered water from the tap. |

normally water in restaurants an hotels is very safe. If you're still concerned ask that the water be brought to you in sealed bottles! |
