Today, the exchange rate is one dollar to 14.93 pesos. But if you convert them at the hotel or buy something at a shop with dollars, you'll probably get something closer to 10 pesos for your dollar.
But at that exchange rate, hotels and shop keepers in the toursit areas (like Cancun and Puerto Vallarta) are happy to take your dollars. They're making about 40 percent when they cash them in at an exchange (cambio). They're making a lot more, from you, than if you had paid in pesos. |

BUT, you better know the Value of the Peso vs Dollar...so you don't OVERPAY....because they will rob you BLIND, if given the opportunity!! |

yes you definitely can, actually, many mexicans prefer american money. Just watch though, their exchange rates vary due to most mexicans making up random numbers, so you are best to research what the difference is between a dollar and ten pesos before you go there. |

Technically no,
but most places will take your dollar as payment,
keep in mind since the rates for currency constantly fluctuate,
paying in dollars keeps you at the mercy of the current rate,
some shop owners will give you a better rate while others wont.
and most shops, restaurants and merchants will take your dollar and give you pesos in change. so be witty because the ball is in their court when it comes to two currencies plus an exchange rate. |
