you do not need a passport to walk or drive across until 2009 right now youre supposed to show id and birth cert. but i go about twice a month and have yet to be asked for anything other than id

As of Jan 08 you need a passport even to walk across the border. Which I find a pain since we go to Mexico at least once a year.
