Perdida gave you a good answer, others are mistaken . Total cost for a passport for an adult is $97.00 plus photos. You can go to travel.state.gov. Click on passports and it will walk you through the whole process and answer all your questions. that way you have the correct info for sure. |

The only thing, that I have to add, to the previous answers is.
Some cities and counties, the passports are handled by some local government office.
Like a previous answer said, contact your local post office. They will know if they handle it, or who in your area does.
This is a United States Passport, and it is valid in any country that you wish to travel to, provided you have met that country's visa/entry requirements.
In Mexico, they only require the passport, and even then, only require it outside of the border city areas. |

$67 plus photos, assuming you don't want any expedited services. |

You don't even "have" to have a passport to travel to and from Mexico at the present time, though that is set to change in 2008. At present time, you can cross into Mexico as a US Citizen with your DL / ID and proof of Citizenship like Birth Certificate. You will be issued a tourist card (FMT) which can be valid for up to 6 months. If you plan to stay in the border area (20 miles or so) you don't even need that. If you will be going to the interior or flying in you will need the FMT and for stays over 7 days it will cost about $25 US. |

Passport photos are about $8. The cost of the passport itself depends on when you need it. Typical cost is about $70. If you need it expedited (guaranteed faster than 4 weeks, it is almost double the cost. |
