Hi Emma. My wife and I went to Playacar four years ago (just a couple of miles up the coast from Cancun). there is a row of really top class hotels - I think all of them are ' All Inclusive ' - We stayed at the Iberostar Quetzal - It was absolutely idyllic - a little expensive but everything was top class - the location, the accomodation and the food. So good in fact we are going to book again next february. Please be aware that July - November is Hurricane season.

Hello, I love Cancun - my favourite place, I've been 3 times and I have stayed at the Barcelo Tucancun and the Grand Costa Real twice (now known as Barcelo Costa Cancun) I must say that the Barcelo Costa Cancun was by far the best. A little beach though not the lovely beach like the other beach front hotels but lovely atmosphere, food, staff, rooms etc.... very reasonable too. Moon Palace, ok but far away from nightlife. Riu very nice, but also very big. Try the Costa Caribe - sister hotel to the Barcelo Costa Cancun - I am thinking of going there next time. Have fun - I'm jealous! x

Barcelo Tucancun is the best! 4 star hotel! all inclusive. The staff is super friendly and the hotel is so beauiful! I think its the only hotel thats painted and organe color so its not hard to miss. but they have 3 pools and 3 or 4 bars - i dont rememebr but theres a bar open at all times of the day. The beach is in walking distance. And the best thing is that its not expensive at all! I highly recommend this hotel!

Cancun? I really can recommend Isla Mujeres, which is a 20minute ferry ride from Cancun. Cancun is brash, loud, full of Americans and families - if that's what you want from a holiday, then go for it, but otherwise, you should think about just passing through Cancun. Isla mujeres has charm, and a certain friendliness you won't find on the mainland. It has much better beaches as Hurricane Wilma stripped Cancun of all it's sand. Now the only beaches you will find belong to high class hotels, who can afford to dredge the sea for the sand resulting in ecological disaster for the creatures that live there. Anyway, Isla Mujeres gets quite a few day-trippers from Cancun all looking for a beach to relax on.
If you want a more western feel, stay in the Avalon Reef hotel - which actually has it's own island at the north tip of Isla Mujeres. Na Balaam (just over the bridge) is really lovely. We often stay in either Bucaneros or the Hotel Belmar which are sort of in town, but still a 5 minute walk from the best beach on the island.
The best thing of all is that there is so much to do on the island, but it has a much more laid back feel to it than the commercialised and highly plastic Cancun. The ferry should be about US$7 for a return ticket. Ferry leaves every half hour from Gran Puerto Cancun, and the taxi from the airport should be no more than US$45

Have a great time

I just return from Cancun; stayed south in Riveria Maya at the Aventura Spa Palace. It's an Adult Only resort! It's about 45 mins south of Cancun. Very private and quiet!!

We went to Cancun last year and stopped in the Costa Real Resort (now called Barcelo Costa Cancun), and had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this hotel (not expensive either) it is a 4 star with 24hr all inclusive. Our room was large and was straight out onto the beach. Food was very good, rooms were cleaned every day. We are hoping to go back to mexico this year. Hope this helps, and im sure you will have a nice time where ever you decide to stay.
