I personally like Cozumel better than Cancun. But you just have to consider what is important to you.
In Cancun the resorts are smaller becuase it is in a big city. So the hotel will probably have less activities, tennis courts etc. The hotels are just side by side, jammed together. The beach is nice, but that's about it. There is the city but I think if I was traveling with a family I would consider one of the big resorts near Playa del Carmen or Cozumel.
I stayed at a place called the Barcelo Maya Resort one time. It seemed really family friendly with all kinds of activities, child center, crafts, vollyball, shows, etc. It seems like I see travel deals on funjet all the time to go there. Also the place was sprawling with at least a mile of beach.
In Cozumel I stayed at the Iberostar Cozumel and the same goes for this place. I would feel safe letting my kids participate in the activities here.
In Cozumel the water is calm. In Cancun and Playa del Carmen there are sometimes rough sea and waves, and sometimes just small waves. I personally like the calm water.
Also, if you go to Cozumel, take a family snorkeling trip to the reef. It is the best I have seen aside from Belize. The snorkeling in the Cancun area is dissappointing to me.
Good luck and have fun!
In Cancun there is a big city lifestyle right outside your resort, which comes with a higher crime rate too. I am not at all paranoid and I have traveled this area many times, but it seems like a big worry to have to keep up with that many kids in that city. I will attach some links to the hotels I was talking about...
Good Luck!
I just noticed the golf thing. Try the Palace resorts. They are pricey but if you are staying at one you can play at the others. There is a ferry between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, so you could stay one one side and visit the other... Just be prepared to easily double the cost of your trip if the golfing is that important. I am sure there are courses to visit no matter where you stay, but the better selection will be on the mainland. |

Go to Cancun and then see about getting some transportation to PLAYA DE CARMEN. From there you can take a boat to Cozumel for the day! I did it and I loved it. I like Cozumel but I think it is more of a fun place to hang out for a few hours. Also see about visiting this place called Xcaret! It is awesome and would be a great place for you and your husband to take your children. It is kinda like a Zoo but 100% better. There are swimming pools, snorkeling tours that you fallow the tour guide around in and he explains everything. There is a butterfly area with thousands of butterflies of all colors you can think of. I highly recommend you to visit there. It's pretty much an all day thing.Even towards the end of the day they have a play of the history of Mexico with dancers and fireworks.www.xcaret.com has more info if you would like to check it out. |

Try the Moon Palace - it has an All-Inclusive golf package. I am not that much into golf, but when we went on the tour I can assure you that the greens were spectacular. They do tournaments on the course even. It is a Jack Nicklaus Signature - the only 1 of its kind in Cancun.

The hotel is like a dream come true. With the All Inclusive fee all of your drinks and food (10 restaurants!!!!) is included in the price you pay. The rooms all have romantic double Jacuzzis and balconies with hammocks. It is landscaped perfectly and the main hotel is all glass and marble. It is truly a sight!
They sell the packages on eBay - I think it runs about $500 savings per room - just make sure the peron you buy from has adequate feedback.
Good luck, I do not think there is a better hotel in the world i could steer you towards. Oh, I also forgot to mention, they have endless activities for children - and they share their other hotels in the area with you - so you can do things at the other hotels - even eat and drink at them. I know that the water park is included as the all inclusive and kids love that stuff : )
The hotel I stayed at was in Cancun (Riviera Maya) there is also a palce resort in Cozumel - although I have not been there I am sure the hotel would also be spectacular! |

With all the kids and your husband you'll probably have to take out a second mortgage on your home for this vacation. But seriously, I would suggest Cancun over Cozumel. The reason is there is much more to do with the kids in Cancun. In addition, your husband has a choice of three different golf courses in and around Cancun.
If you elect to stay at one of the large, or ultra large hotels the cost will be prohibitive for 6 people. The reason is, most of the larger hotels are all inclusive, going with kids means that your going to be here and there and not eating every meal at your hotel. I would suggest staying at the Best Western Cancun Clipper Club. The Clipper Club sits right in the middle of the hotel zone and is close to everything, and is small enough to allow the kids to wander around the property and not get lost. The Clipper Club is not all inclusive and the food at the hotel restaurant is great. If you want you can cook meals in your room. The suites (which is what you'll need) come with a full kitchen and dinning area. |
