Cruise stop at Cozumel, what to do? |
I can see what the cruise ship offers but wondering if there is anything recommended to do - t hree teens, two adults. We aren't afraid to make our own arrangements and when on a previous cruise think we did better arranging our own itinerary at some ports.
Any recommendations of must see/do activities? |

Cozumel is a fun place to go...it's very safe and there is a lot to do. The two story mall another answerer referred to is called Punta Langosta, and it has shopping (expect to pay higher prices here), as well as the Carlos and Charlies and Senor Frogs (both are really fun when in fully swing). You can walk along the waterfront and shop your way to the town square with tons of shopping. If you want to eat while on Cozumel, I would recommend Casa Denis (http://www.casadenis.com/), which is located at the back of the square, or Guido's (http://www.guidoscozumel.com/)located on the waterfront. Another good place to eat is south of Punta Langosta at Hog Town Cafe (http://www.papahogs.com/site/cafe.php)...they have a great breakfast and a beautiful view (outside dining). If you keep heading south of town, Chankanaab (http://www.cozumelparks.com/eng/parks-chankanaab.asp) is a beautiful national park (information on other Cozumel parks can be found on the site as well). The snorkeling is good and the atmosphere is very relaxing. They also have good food and service. You can also do the dolphin or sea lion encounter here. If you can rent a car, you can drive around the island, to the windward side (also called the wild side). The drive is beautiful, with many picture oppotunities. I would be careful about getting in the water, as currents are swift, however, there are a number of beach clubs on this side (Chen Rio is nice). If you drive to this side of the island, the trip is not complete without a stop at Coconuts (http://www.islacozumel.net/food/coconuts/). As you continue on, you will drive past the ruins at San Gervasio as you get closer to town (assuming you headed south first, the road makes on big loop around the island).
Another resource for specific guided tours is www.cozumelmycozumel.com.
Have fun!!
PS - If you are a diver, what you do on the island is a no-brainer...the diving is fantastic. |

I cruised and went to Cozumel ~ all I saw was shopping and food. And I did a lot of both. Everything is cheaper there. The food is good, the people are nice and if the teens are old enough Senior Frogs is a fun place. My sister did the Mayan ruins and she liked doing that, but she said it was too long. It was an all day excursion. |

Just walk around or rent a car or motorcycle. Even a horse carriage. |

alot of people say shopping is a must, and i have to say the shopping is great, but snorkleing is really cool.
i highly recommend paradise beach (free to get in, but not a good snorkleing sight) and chankanaab (there's a fee to get in, but i really enjoyed it) |

Cozumel is beautiful. Hop in a cab and head to Paradise Beach. It's pretty cheap to enter (perhaps free, I can't remember) and you can buy food, drinks, swimming, snorkel, etc. We spent the day at Paradise Beach and had a fantastic day. Google Paradise Beach Cozumel for their website. The owner is an American (Tom, he's really friendly). |

Check out the website Xcaret.com Unless you want to scuba dive or hang out on a beach. I suggest you take a ferry ($20.00pp) across to Playa del Carmen and go to Xcaret. Take a taxi to Xcaret, about 5min. away. ($5 to $8 for taxi) Walk straight ahead (when you exit the ferry) two blocks and you will find taxis on 10th ave. Buy tickets on line or at Xcaret. It takes about 45 min. to cross from Cozumel to Playa, the ferry runs about every hour. 5th Ave. in Playa is one block from the ferry and you can shop all along 5th. It is nicer than Cozumel. I like Playa for having fun, Cozumel is where I scuba dive. Check out Xcaret, lots of fun and it will not take long to get there. It is the closest attraction to the ferry. The teens will thank you for it, they can snorkel, swim and the buffet at Xcaret is pretty good. |

I was there almost exactly a year ago. Don't expect that Cozumel will off anything great. Right by the port, there is a smaller 2 story mall, which seems to be new, because it was so clean. Sure, venture out a bit, but don't expect great things. Cozumel sucks......don't hesitate to go back to the boat early and get some extra rest or spa treatment. |
