not till January I went to Mexico yesterday by car and they did not ask me for one, I just showed them my Texas id.

All those people who keep saying you need a passport for LAND trvel to Mexico starting in Jan. have not read the State Dep't website since October when the CURRENT announcement was posted. The reqirement for passports for LAND and SEA travel to Mexico has been delayed until after SUMMER 2008. See website below and read top half of page carefully for the info. You do NOT need a passport to travel to Mexico by land in Jan.

If you are traveling by car it is not required yet till January 2008. I have been back and forth last few months and only used my drivers license but if you are crossing by airplane you definitely do need a passport

LAND AND SEA TRAVEL
The following summarizes information available on the Department of Homeland Security’s website.

JANUARY 31, 2008
U.S. and Canadian citizens will need to present either a WHTI-compliant document, or a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, plus proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate. DHS also proposes to begin alternative procedures for U.S. and Canadian children at that time.
