It depends on when you go, assuming that you are a US citizen and traveling beyond the "border zone". A passport is still highly recommended, but in its place, you can provide other recognized forms of "citizenship" id: e.g. certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate, Naturalization Certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad, or Certificate of Citizenship. Driver's licenses are definitely NOT acceptable forms of ID.

However, starting Dec. 31, 2006, you are REQUIRED to have a US passport when traveling via air or sea, and starting Dec. 31, 2007, for any border crossing.

I don't think so. When I went I had my US drivers license. I think you just need to show that you are a US citizen.
