As of right now, all you need is a drivers license or a birth certificate to cross the border. As of Jan. 1, 2007, you will need a passport.

No passport needed for travel in the United states to any state. But, yes we use passports to travel to any other country, just like everyone else.

Not before January 2007,you'll need a birth certificate and drivers license at this point! Several people here are confused!

WATCH OUT your trip and try to be scorted with somebody who really know where to go.... Hi Mantenance has right answer with all the true.

Have a nice trip!!

I just got back from Los Cabos, MX and Americans do not need a passport. You will only need a birth certificate (original) no copies and your state ID or Drivers License. Check out the link I gave you below, there is a toll-free # you can call to speak to someone in the Board of Tourism.

Not occasionally, but when you want to go visit just take your citizen I.D. or your birth citizenship reference. (You'll know what I mean.)

I just heard a few days ago that U.S. citizens need a passport to get back in the states from Mexico and Canada. This includes Baja. But i don't know when that goes into effect. The best thing to do is just call a travel agent and ask them, you don't need to book with them, just ask.

I suppose you meant Baja California, Mexico, in that case you do need a passport.

Yes and no...any time we leave our country we need passport. California is a part of our country.

Right now, for a US citizen, to get into any North American country (canada and mexico for those that don't know the difference) You need a birth certificate and a picture ID - driver's licence. This will change January 2007.
