Now until the end of December all you need is a photo i.d. and a certified birth certificate. After December you will need a passport, as that is when the law changes.

You can go to Mexico without a passport this year. Beginning next year everyone will need a passport going to Mexico. From past experience though having a passport while traveling in Mexico does make it easier.

Not until next year but you do need a drivers license and an official copy of your birth certificate. Not just a copy
First ask you airlines ... they will grill you at the desk or gate

I am going to Cancun this week and I have checked with the travel agency. You do not need one at the time. In the future you will. Jan. 2007.

I went to Cancun April 2002 and I did not need a passport then. Just my birth certificate and my drivers license. However, things could have changed since then. Plus, it was annoying to have to carry those things around all the time. THe passport is much easier.
