Everyone will tell you you do not need one, as long as you bring your certified copy of your birth certificate and a valid identification card or drivers license issued by a state. Make sure you not only have a passport, but make sure you have an FMT Federal Migratory Tourist Card. It costs about 30 dollars at the boarder and is good for 14 days. It can be extended by contacting the local offices of imagration prior to it expiring. Do not lose your documents and keep them where the local thiefs can not take them. Make sure to bring a lot of money, while things dont cost much you go through money quick if you do not speak the language.

not yet. you can currently travel with your license and a certified copy of your birth certificate but soon you will need a passport and from experience i can tell you it's easier to travel with a passport than it is with all those papers.
