It all depends on your country of birth, and if you still a citizen of your country of birth. To determine if you need a visa, call a Mexican Consulate in the US city where you live, or call the Mexican Embassy in Washington.
A permanent resident of the US is just that, a legal resident of the US, and that is good when you need to reenter the US. Now, if you are walking across the border to vacation in Mexico you might just need your driver license and your US card, they will give you a permit to stay within 25 miles of the border.
But if you are traveling by plane, check with the airline directly about your visa requirements. Most countries do not need visas in Mexico, but they are some that do.
Your best bet is to go to the airline with your original passport and US card to ask, personally. |

you don't need a visa if you're staying for a relatively short amount of time.
however, after december 31, everyone entering the US will be required to have a passport when travelling by air or sea. |

maybe you would need a visa to enter in Mexico, depends on your citizenship, just to cross the border is no problem but if your plans is to travel further I suggest you better get informed, regards! |

No, the experts are correct. But to you and everyone reading this...jut so you cannot say no one told you...as of 1/1/07, All US and CAN tourists into MX will need a passport/visa, no ifs ands or buts! True, check the State Dept. website. Best to always have one with you and it lasts 10 years I believe!
