the best thing to do is to have a passport. it'll be better for you. You'll probably get a tourist visa for about 60-90 days. But even if they give you a 30-day stay visa, it's all good. All you'll need to do is to go to the Oficina de Migracion (Immigration office) in the city where you'll be living and ask for an visa extension. It's not complicated. The fee for this is not that bad (about $25 US).
If you drive you'll have to get a Temporary import on your vehicle, or, pay the import tax (if you're driving an American made vehicle and nothing newer than a 97 model), so you can have it here and sell it if you get tired of it. But if you pay the temporary import, then make sure you don't leave your vehicle here, or you'll get in trouble :) Same thing applies for an extension on the temporary import of a car. You need to go to an Aduanas office and pay for the extension. or, drive to the closest border and drive right back into Mexico :)

You MUST have a passport. You will most likely want to visit the U.S. ( or maybe other places) at some time in the future. You may think you will never want to move back to the U.S., but there is no way you can predict the future and your circumstances may change. If you plan to live in Mexico, you will need an FM3 visa from the nearest Mexican consulate...with a work permit. it is EXTREMELY difficult to get a work visa for Mexico. Or...you must be able to PROVE that you have at least $1000.00 a month steady income or at least enough in the bank to live on for one year. You may find life in Mexico is much different then you epect it to be. Your baby will aslo need a passport, and a signed, notarized letter or permission from his/her father to be taken out of the United States(you must have that letter or the father must be with you when you apply for the baby's passport.) The baby will also need a visa just like you. It takes about 4 months for passports to be processed at this time..that gives you time to learn a LOT more about living in Mexico. I have seen other young ladies with babies, whose fathers are Mexican, who decided to move here with the father Life is usually MUCH different than they expect and it does not always work out. BE sure you and the baby have American passports and that you will have the means to return to the states at any time you decide it is best to do so. I want you to be safe and prepared! The website below is a list of Mexican consulates in the Unted States.

Of course, believe it or not, we also have laws. Check on the web.

hey, that is not the U.S.

They will boot yhour butt out after a certain length of time..
You must also have a visa with your passport..

you might be able to go to a travel agency and they will tell you what you need.

They might even keep your car if you drive it there.

You should have a passport it's good ID and who knows you just might want to travel somewhere else. It takes a lot of the hassle out of traveling

You need one to fly down... don't know about driving. Still, I would get one in case there was an emergency and you had to come back to the states by plane.

You will need a passport and visa if you aren´t mexican, if you are mexican just your passport.
