Do many Mexicans have Indian blood? Would some of them be related to the Aztecs?

Herky
yeahh a lot of mexicans do have indian blood, a lot of it is spread regionally, northern mexico having the most white people and the south being pretty much all indigineous, you can call central mexico mestizo mexico, you can use this as a rule of thumb however there are exceptions

About 93% of Mexicans are at least part Indian. Not all of the Aztecs were exterminated, only the top of the power hierarchy. The Aztecs belonged to the Nahua linguistic and cultural group which was dominant in central Mexico at the beginning of the 16th century. There are still many Nahuatl speakers(the Aztec's language) scattered throughout the central states.

In summary : yes many Mexicans have Indian blood and some of them are related by language and DNA to the Aztecs, some even descended from the Aztecs.

MANY...Some Aztec, some Mayan, etc..

There are still 1,376,026 speakers of the Aztec language Nahuatl.
And 759,000 speak Yucatec Maya.
And Mixtec speakers are 423,216 strong.
And there are 410,901 Zapotec speakers.
Tzeltal Maya = 371,730 speakers.
Tzotzil Maya = 329,937 speakers.
These people are descended from the Aztec, Maya, Mixtec and Zapotec tribes.

Yes "bassmeister-D" is quite correct, it is estimated that as many as 92-95% of Mexicans have indigenous blood representing perhaps as much as 75-80% of the total gene pool of the country, making Mexico the largest and most powerful indigenous American nation in the world!

The term "mestizos" which was common a hundred years ago was still used until about 20-30 years ago, however as about 90% of the population is now composed of pretty much the same racial mix, the national race is now simply referred to as "Mexican" and the term "mestizo" pretty much used only in the US where racism and racial division is much more rampant

That's interesting. I myself am a Hispanic American (born-and-raised in Chicago) but my family is from Mexico.
I'm pretty sure I have Indian blood (maybe Aztec) on my mom's side. But on my dad's side, I am pretty convinced my dad's dad's parents (my great grandparents) came from Spain, so, I'm a mestizo. I think that's right. . .

joeluw1977
Yes. There are also many other indigenous groups living in Mexico, the majority are of mixed heritage.
