The drug wars are between the drug lords, the policemen, and the soldiers. My family and I have been going to Mexico once a year every year for about 10 years and we have never encountered any problems. If you go to a touristy area especially you should be fine, just be aware of your surroundings and don't trust the cab drivers--they'll rip you off!

I was there a week ago, and did not feel unsafe in the least bit.

If you do visit, make sure to do so in a very touristy area (like the places cruise ships stop). I went to Cozumel, and Costa Maya. Also make sure not to be out at night or alone. Make sure you have at least one or two more people with you, and get off the streets before it gets dark. Don't go through back streets. In places where tourism is the main source of income, it'll be safer.

I would stay away from city like Juarez and Tijuana those are some major drug trafficing areas. If you pass threw and go more south then im sure you will be fine but if your looking to hang out near the border be cautious.

Gossip, rumors and undocumented stories of tourists being harmed are just that...rumors and gossip Violence is in the border towns, the rest of Mexico is safer than the U.S.....where 8 incidents of mass killings...mall shootings, etc . have occurred in the past 2 months. If any U.S. tourists had actually been harmed in Mexico, can't you imagine the huge media coverage there would be? Look at the media coverage of the pirate incident involving an American ship. There are over one million American and Canadian people living full time in Mexico and we are perfectly safe. Border towns are one thing, the rest of Mexico, especially tourist areas over 1800 miles from the border are totally different.

HAZ PATRIA, MATA A UN GRING0
jajaja, a tourist has a better chance of getting hit by a falling piano than something bad happening in México.

you realize the jewnited states government is upset because it squandered four decades and trillions of dollars on the "war on drugs" and lost? you realize México is the number one tourist destination for gringos and due to the collapse of their economy they want people to spend the money at home?

why do americans believe everything they see or hear? idiots.

99% of the tourists are from Europa these days because they don't live in a society of manufactured fear. NOTHING happens to them, ever.

depends where you go in mexico... if you go to the touristy places i feel perfectly safe.. but if you go in the not-so-good parts, i'd feel scared. i heard this story about this family who went on vacation to mexico, and the lady, who was six months pregnant, went for a jog in the morning. she went into some of the dodgier places, and a guy grabbed her and stuffed her in the trunk of his car. she had her cell with her and was able to call her husband, so they caught the guy, but it was too late to save her. he had slit her throat open, and i think he did something to her stomach, too. anyways, her and the baby died.
