Do you have to have a passport to travel to Mexico?

I am a U.S. citizen and want to travel to Mexico for a honeymoon but do I have to have a passport in order to? I am asking because I know the laws have recently gotten a whole lot more agressive with passports.

Going to Mexico has required a passport for a while. Going to Canada requires a passport now.

Somora
"If you fly, you need a passport. If you travel by land or sea, you don't. But as of Jan. 31, U.S. adults are expected to present at least a birth certificate or other proof of citizenship, plus a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, to cross these land-sea borders; children 18 and younger need only a birth certificate.

Starting sometime this spring, the State Department plans to issue a new document, called a passport card, that you can use for land-sea crossings from Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Bermuda."

There have been a lot of changes in the passport requirements as to dates. Just get the passport, no worries.

Yes the law just changed about a week ago for good you now must have a pass-port to travel to ANY other country!

The new rules are - any person entering or re-entering the United States must have a valid passport. You can get into Mexico on a birth certificate and a photo ID, but you cannot get back into the United States.
