The next big change with passports is June 1, 2009, not 2008. At that time passports will be needed for all modes of travel between Mexico and the U.S. Until then , they are required for flyng, but for land or sea travel you can use a photo I.D. and birth certificate. You need a passport if you are flying and a US citizen. If you are a resident alien, you need your passport of birth country and your green card to get back into the USA.
As of 1/1/2009 you will have to have a passport. At this point in time you can still cross the border and come back but you will be issued a "warning". yeah what they said, but it's just a retarded bush idea, i'm sure it will be abolished once a competant president takes the white house. I mean like us having passports is really going to stop aliens from going accross the border.
