A friend of mine said that she went and didn't need a passport but she did need to bring her birth cert. I just wanted to make sure this is correct. |

Yes, you do need a passport. This rule is fairly new, so if she went before it went into affect, she could've gotten through with just a birth cert. |

Passports have been required to FLY to and from Mexico since January 2007... a year ago. Passports are not required for LAND or SEA travel to and from Mexico yet...the date has not been set for this. Many people gave you incorrect answers. See site below and read top half of the page carefuly for the current, correct info. as I presume you will be flying to Cancun, you will need a passport. You will not be allowed on the plane without one. See 2nd website for all apssport application info. It is currently taking 4 to 6 weeks to process a passport, plus mailing time both ways. You can get one in 2 to 3 weeks if you pay the extra $60.00 expediting fee AND the express mail fees for both ways. |

I am going to Cancun next month. I had to get a passport....sorry. But get it now. I went on the 9th and had to rush it--but I got it today. Better safe than sorry. |

No, I don't need passport to go to CancĂșn, because I'm mexican.
The requirement for passport for american citizens is by the United States government, NOT mexican government. So, you can leave USA without passport, but you can not go back, how can be sure immigration officers you are an actual american citizen without your passport?...you could be a foreigner trying to go there illegaly.
Many people I know, mexican people, used to cross the border only saying "I'm american ciltizen", they live in the border, sepak english fluenty anf even had driver licence from US; so doing this was necesary for you. |

Yes. Anywhere outside of the U.S. - including Mexico and the United States. (one of the many changes brought about by 9/11)
Be sure to allow plenty of time for your passport to be processed. (6 wks) If you plan to leave in the next few weeks, you'll have to pay a fee to speed up the process. |
