No...you only need your state certified copy of your birth certificate and your state drivers license/ID card.
**Passports were originally going to be required starting Dec. 31st of this year. That has been changed until Jan. 1 of 2008 due to one of the major passport centers being destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. So for now..you don't need the passport.

Not at this time. I recall hearing that in the next year or so, The US will require US citizens to show a passport upon returning to the US from Mexico-- but I don't know when that will be going into effect.

As a citizen all you need is your birth certificate and a state issued picture ID
