No you do not need a passport to get into Mexico, but it is wise to have a passport because of the high possiblity of being stopped and asked for I.D. And the futher into Mexico you go the more you will need one for identification purposes, just as a I.D from Mexico or say, Germany is not valid here in the U.S., your U.S. I.D.is not valid there.A passport is the international I.D. You can get one for about $125-150 and it takes two weeks if you put a rush on it. |

no....I went from Eagle Pass, TX to Piedras Negras and didn't need one...although if you have Idaho plates, you do end up getting your entire car searched when you leave Mexico....and that takes forever lol. |

Legally it is necesary, beacuse Mx an USA are different countries...
if u are going to arrive by plane u WILL need one... but in the border it can be ignored because some people cross everyday to work and live, etc. |

I'm absolutely certain that you don't need a passport- however, make sure you have a valid US ID when you try to return!!! Sometimes they detain you if you can't prove you're a US citizen until they check you out. I can't tell you how unpleasant that can be. Especially if you're dark skinned, I've got a portugese friend (born and raised in USA) who is detained EVERY TIME he goes to mexico just because they think he's of latin american descent. |

I just got back from Cancun Maxico - All I needed was a valid state issued ID (drivers license) and a state birth certificate with the raised seal. In 2007 you will need a passport. |
