Go to www.royalresorts.com and look at the beautiful villas. Don't worry, all the timeshares are sold old so you don't have to worry about looking at any of them.
You can rent from www.redweek.com or wwwtug2.net We go grocery shopping to either Sams Club or Walmart (via bus) and then take a taxi back. Food prices aren't bad and we love cooking at our leisure. Or to out to dinner and enjoy beautiful Cancun!!
Lots of kids, lots of activities around the pool for them. You can walk up the street and swim with the dolphins or go to Puerto Moreles for great snorkeling......or use the resorts non-motorized sporting equipment for an hour each day on the lagoon side of the resort.
We go to Cancun 2x a year and never get tired of it! And our kids always want to go back. |

All the resorts and hotels in Cancun's hotel zone cater to families. In fact most hotels offer baby sitting services, as well as all day entertainment for the kids. Family activities are too numerous to mention, and the vast majority of them will be within walking distance, or a short city bus ride from your hotel.
Outside of tours, and bus trips, hotels and resorts to the south (with the exception of Playa del Carmen) do not have anywhere near the family type of activities the Cancun hotels offer. The reason for this is because of the limited facilities in the immediate area of the resort. Any family type of activity outside the hotel property requires some mode of transportation, and most of the activities you would want to see are in or around Cancun. |

Let me preface this answer with I am not a fan of cancun. Cancun seems to always be a haven for drunken teenagers. Just be careful if looking for FAMILY vaca. I would recommend a little further south...playa del carmen. |
