At the beach it's salty and about 80 degrees and crystal clear a hundred yards off shore.
From the tap, it's swimming with bacteria. Drink bottled water.
Preferably in the form of Corona.

I stayed at that hotel last year, it is a great hotel, but the beach is terrible! The water is roped off because you are on the edge of the lagoon meeting the ocean and boats travel all day. The water was at max 3 feet all around that area. We took the bus down to the sister hotel every day to enjoy the real waves, and deeper water. If you have children this would be more appropriate considering there is not such a danger of under currents. There is little to no movement within the water there.
