Hello, There is NO health RISK in this area. There are NO travel alerts for this area. The strong flu is all over the world, not just Mexico city. Please call me directly in Cancun at 1-888-335-1996 I have lived here 8 years. Anyone that says Mexico is not safe is an idiot, plain and simple. |

OFFCIALLY Cancun is reporting no cases of the Swine Flu, however those kids from NY, a Canadian and a kid from Sacramento, CA that were on vacation there all within the last few weeks have now contracted it. So my guess is that perhaps soon there will be a reported case of a local contracting it soon. |

I am going to Cancun on the 10, and my husband and I are very leery. There was a case of the New York spring breakers that returned from CANCUN with the swine flu virus, (Yahoo TODAY) and this has us very worried. We know that we should be washing our hands and defending our personal space, but travelling on a cruise ship, we are more worried about travellers returning from port, than us going in to port. Ugh! If this wasn't paid for well in advance....we wouldn't risk it. |

I live in Cancun. and I can tell you, yes, you should be alarmed and take precautions, just as you need to at home in the US. It has not been confirmed yet that anyone here has it though. But you might want to bring some of those doctor masks and hand sanitizer. Just be cautious of what you eat - no pig obviously, wash your hands alot, try not to be in crowded places (like the airport). And as always, don“t drink the water : ) |

Cancun has not been a point of focus in the news. I depart tomorrow unless we hear something alarming or if travel becomes restricted. It seems every airline is cooperating regarding change penalties except for Mexicana which has not updated their advisement since Friday the 24th (penalties for changes apply with the exception of travel through Mexico city). |

I was planning on going to Playa Del Carmen in 2 weeks. I checked a lot of internet sites and have found little to no info regarding cases around Cancun. Most of the cases look to be in Central Mexico. It appears the NY Catholic school studends that came down with the virus were staying at the Omni hotel in Cancun. The US authorities have all but stopped travel to Mexico to show how serious this virus is. The Mexican authorities will never acknowledge that there is a dangerous virus in a heavily populated tourist area. I have not entirely made up my mind but it just does not seem worth the risk. If you look sick coming in to the U.S., they might not even allow entry. Then your f** trying to get healthcare in Mexico. |

The mexican authorities are not reporting any swine flu cases in Cancun, however what's interesting is that many tourists from countries including USA and England have been taken ill with the deadly flu either whilst in Cancun, on their way from or on their return from Cancun, as a matter of fact many airlines here in England have canceled outbound flights to Cancun and are offering to repartriate their customers already in mexico/cancun. |

It is possible. Students from NYC that visited Cancun returned with symptoms of swine flu.
Also, if your travelling to Cancun, just be sure to do these things:
1. Know your surroundings (where closest hospital is)
2. Bring potential medication, as the availability is possibly limited (Quote: āThere is no medication for this virus available anywhere in Cancun,ā says Druk" - from link 3 below) (see: http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601087&sid=aWcd0Nbgc_R4&refer=home). Its not a vaccine, read up on it, and how it could help.
3. Make sure you have travel health insurance
4. Bring hand sanitizers to keep you hands clean
These are things that I would do to prepare a trip there.
Just be aware that when you arrive in Cancun, there will be workers at the airport as well as the resorts that are wearing facemasks, and its likely that the masks may be harder to find when your there as stocks may dwindle. |

Of course it has swine flu there how else do all those students contract it? Just because the Government does not officially says there is 1 case does not mean they dont have any. I live in Mexico and the Govt here lies alot about actual figures if it does not suit them. So if you do come dont be suprised if you get sick, but you can take tamiflu within 48 hours. I heard in other cities they with hold info , only because nurses treating infected persons leak the news of deaths etc. Just use your common sense, and dont believe what you hear. |

There are no cases *in* Cancun, but there are many cases in the United States (and elsewhere), where the ill had just returned from Cancun.
However, since nobody *in* Cancun has contracted the flu, it makes me wonder if these folks perhaps caught it while traveling through Mexico City - an area where there are a LOT of confirmed cases. I wish the media would let us know if these Spring Breakers had direct flights from Cancun, or if they had layovers in Mexico City.
If your scheduled trip takes you through Mexico City, I would cancel immediately. If you fly direct to Cancun, then I think you can go and just take standard precautions by washing your hands regularly and being careful whom you touch. |

There is currently (April 2009) and outbreak of swine flu but as of April 28th there has not been 1 reported case in the entire state of Quintana Roo. Quintana Roo is the home of the famous resort areas Cancun and the Riviera Maya. It has been reported that 15 students in New York have come down with the flu and some of them had visited Cancun during Spring Break. There is no proof that there is any correlation between the two as of yet. |
