Mexico has a democratic political system, every six years all citizens 18 years and older have the right to vote for the president they want. President reelection is not allowed.
Having being ruled for a single party (PRI) for more than 70 years, in 2000 the oposition finally won elections with PAN candidate Vicente Fox.
Current president, Felipe Calderon from same party (PAN) is now in power and leading a brave war against corruption and narcotraffic that is costing a lot of lifes but that is needed and no previous presidents wanted to do.
Mexico is a modern country, and only after USA and Canada, is one of the leading countries in Latin America and play important roles in the regional political affairs, being many times a bridge for dialogs in regional disputes.

Wow it's amazing how people can live in total ignorance.

Mexico is a democratic society. It has up to 7 different political powers at any one given time vs the US, which has 2 - democratic and republican.
Here is a picture of the political hall entrance in the capital of Guerro - chilpancingo.
Mexicans live in a democratic society. We are basically living with 7 political parties (3 of them being the most active).
Some people used to think that Mexico was ruled as a dictatorship through many years because of the long period in which one of the president that ruled this country (Porfirio Diaz) kept reelecting himself through more than 30 years (1876-1991) and because of the long period in which one of the main political parties in this country (known as PRI) occupied the presidency with all of their proposed candidates in each election for almost 80 years (elections after Porfirio Diaz where taken every 6 years)
