Um, Im not sure whos getting bribed or hit up for cash, but I have crossed at San Ysidro, Ca into Mexico, as well as Otay Mesa highway 905...and a crossing from El Paso, TX to Juarez. I have NEVER paid anything... Walking across or driving...other than for clearly marked toll roads such as Mexico 1D.($2.35 USD) As far as a passport, drivers and pedestrians arent required to have one to cross at these ports of entry until 2008. All you need is a license. Ive crossed the border drunk with friends when I was 17, and my filipino friend got back into the US with no Identification whatsoever, makes you wonder why were building a fence. Just know where you were born and have a Drivers license ;) |

at least from the Texas border, it costs about $2.30 to be paid at the bridge. as of now, if you are an American citizen, you do not need to have a passport by land. that requirement will begin in 2008. |

It can cost you a dollar or two to exit the US. The bridges or port's of exit are usually owned by the city and they charge. There is one privately owned bridge that I know of and that Is Rio Grande City, TX. It does cost a dollar to cross at Del Rio. That bridge belongs to the city. |

No charge to cross border in places I have crossed from CA and you only need a passport starting 1/1/07 if you cross by plane or sea. In addition, beginning in 2008, you will need a passport if you cross by land. Currently nothing is needed to cross into Mexico but a photo ID is required to get you back in the USA. |

yes there are fees when you enter mexico and i think you do need a passport. security is pretty tight there so I think they absolutely require one. When coming back, they make you pay american taxes on anything you bought while you were there. I believe to take a car to Mexico it costs $150! |

We crossed for free down at Del Rio, into Acuna. But they charged us three bucks to get back into the US. |
