Well the spanish stablished a Colony in the Phillipines since the 1500´s and yes the there was a big link between Mexico( then called New Spain) and the Phillipines, since the trade route that link Spain with the Philipines went From Manila to Acapulco then to inner Mexico by land then to Veracruz and then to Spain by sea.
The Phillipines had a big influence on Mexico and Mexico had a big influence on the Phillipines.
The company of that route was "la Nao de China" or "Galeon de Manila"
but in the 1830 when independent Mexico broke all commercial relantionships with spain and all of those tights were lost.
Spain keep the Phillipines as a Colony until the US in 1898 made war and took the Spanish Caribbean islands and the Philipines from Spain.....
Thats why there are similar religious rituals like Semana Santa, and some old constructions in Manila seem a lot to the ones you will find from the same period in Mexico city.
Spanish language though was never imposed to the natives like it happened in Mexico, only the descendents from Spanish spoke it, and they spoke it with an accent from Acapulco.
Too bad that some of the people take this as an insult, they should dig more into History. |

Hey, I think you're talking about "Barrio Fiesta", a restaurant. Yes, my country reminds me of an "Asian Mexico", because we were colonized by Spaniards and they had influenced us in language, food, living, traditions and in everything... |

Nope, not even close. I actually take that as an insult. |

They were colonised by the Spanish before. |

Yes I'm mexican and I'm agree. We share many historical ties with Phillipines, I hope the guy who says is an insult read some history book. |

No. They have Spanish first and last names, and it influenced their cuisine, etc. because they were ruled by the Spanish. Real Filipino culture is nothing like Spanish culture. |
