I prefer Florida, because frankly, Cancun is an over-developed resort city mimicking the American model - mostly soulless, high-rise hotels and US bars and eateries like Carlos and Charlie's. Further down the coast is much nicer, though it, too, is becoming "Americanized" "Las Vegas-style".
Many parts of Florida are very laid-back and low-key - especially the Gulf Coast resort of Sanibel and the Florida Keys. And for a really laid-back vacation, try Ten Thousand Islands near Naples. I have stayed at Port of the Islands 4 times and every time you go back they treat you like family.
Depends on what kind of vacation you want: packaged, touristy, not that different from what you would get in Vegas or Atlantic City - or relaxed and easy.
Even Miami Beach is more relaxed than Cancun, IMHO, and offers a lot more, different options for nightlife. Cancun is one of the Spring Break capitals of the world, if that gives you a better idea. |

Florida, hands down!!! But do not stick to the Orlando tourist trap...There are so many exciting places in this state, I can only begin to tell you about!!!
