First time going to Guardalajarda, Mexico skeptical! Help!!!? |
Ok, So my husband got sent to go to Guardalajarda, Mexico for 3 weeks for the company that he works for & he wants me to go. I 'am aware that this is not going to be a vacation because he will be working but i figured hey, we will have time together...he's been wanting to travel with me & around that time it will be his birthday & our anniversary & he wants us to spend it together not apart. They are paying for his stay (But on the other hand i have to pay for my ticket's & other things but that won't be a problem) Is Food Cheap? Expensive? We don't know what to expect & I don't know if it will be worth the trip.. staying for 3 weeks in Mexico!!! how's the weather? What attire do we wear? Will they treat you any differently since they know that we are american (He's greek & I'm puerto rican/dominican born in n.j) will they treat us equally? I Have No idea what to expect ! It would be awesome if i got a an answer!!! Thank You =o) |

Hey, good for you, Many questions have been answered already, but I want to tell you something else, Guadalajara is a big, modern city, well it has an old part too, but, dress like you would in your city to go out, do not wear sandals, tennis shoes or bermudas will immedatly will show you are a tourist. Dress casual but not like going to the beach.
As far as food, you can find very cheap food or very expensive, but I'd recommend:
- Pipiolo or Karne Garibaldi, which is meat on a broth, very good, and try in Garibaldi their delicious beans with corn. They are trhoughout the city and even have stands in some malls. Very casual place.
- If you like japanese food, try japanese mexican style at Toyo, restaurant but still casual
- If you go to a soccer match, because there are 3 professional soccer teams in Gdl, it could be a worh experience, across the stadium Estadio Jalisco, on one corner, try Tortas El Pesebre, delicious
- Hotel Quinta Real for Mexican food in a very nice environment, elegant.
There are many places to eat at, but those are my favourites.
The weather in Guadalajara is most of the year nice around 77 F
Not to be missed Templo Expiatorio, a beautiful catholic church, it is the most beautiful in town.
There are always events and fun things to do in Guadalajara, check out the web for special events.
Enjoy your trip! and congrats on your anniversary. |

I can honestly say you have nothing to worry about. There are many things to do while you are down there. Food is very cheap and right now the money exchange is very favorable for Americans. Puerto Vallarta is only 3 hours away by car. The weather is pleasant through out the year. Everyone will treat you with respect. I recommend a vacation guide book and do some research before you go. If you have a GPS system I highly recommend downloading the map for Mexico. It helped me out a lot during my last visit. |

Mora" is correct. You will be well received. Mexican people are friendly and gracious. As for clothing...casual is always fine. Weather will be moderately warm, but not outright hot. There are many expensive restaurants and many inexpensive ones, but overall, they are much cheaper than in the U.S. Some of the best food is in the tiny neighborhood restaurants. Try all the new foods. There are lots of Americans , actually , thousands, of Americans living in and around Guadalajara. It is a popular retirement and vacation site for Americans. |

Click the first link to read about Things you could do in Guadalajara. Click to other links to view images of Guadalajara, Zapopan. Tlaquepaque, Tonala, a train ride to Tequila, a tour of Tequila and Ajijic/Lake Chapala.
Food?
You can find expensive restaurants or ask the person at the hotel front desk to direct you to a restaurant that's good and cheap (bueno y barato) and you'll find many of those,
Weather?
you don't say what month you would be coming. Right now, you might wake up to temps in the 40s and warming into the 80s during the day. So you might need a light jacket for mornings and evenings--one you can tie around your waist or stuff into a fanny pack in the afternoon.
Treatment?
Mexicans like Americans--they bring money for their economy. You'll be treated even better if you speak some Spanish. |
