Well, the number one piece of advice I can give you is to have fun, and you will for sure! Cancun is my favorite place in the world.
Do get out of the resort. Some people go down there and never leave the resort. They missed out on a lot, like seeing the surroundings, people, culture, etc. It's all quite beautiful.
Use the bus for a cheap way to go. It's like 70 cents a person. Taking taxis to and from every place will get expensive. Plus, the drivers have been known to rip people off by over charging. It happened to me too, even though I speak Spanish.
If you want to shop for souvenirs, go to Coral ***** Market in the "Hotel Zone" and bargain with the vendors, OR for a more authentic experience, go into the actual city of Cancun by taking the bus that says "MDO 28" on it, meaning Market 28. The driver usually will call out the names of the drop-off points, so you will know when to get off, or just tell him when you get on where you want to go so you don't miss the stop.
Take a few excursions. Depending on what you're into, there is Xcaret, Xel-ha for snorkeling, Tulum and Chichen Itza and Coba for the pyramids, Joe's Jeep Adventures for swimming in the cenotes and driving through the jungle and visiting a hands-on zoo and feeding iguanas (which is all awesome), the jet-skis, parasailing (I took my camera in 2 Ziploc bags for some wonderful photos), bullfights, personal speedboat jungle tours, deep sea fishing (they let you keep the fish and you take it to your resort and the chef will cook it/them for you), and so many more things I can't even think of right now.
I know you will thoroughly enjoy Cancun. And don't watch the weather forecasts because they're almost ALWAYS wrong for Cancun. |

Drink only bottled water, and even use bottled water to brush your teeth. That also means no ice cubes!!! That is the best advice you can get.
Oh -- and no sex with strangers. You never know what you will catch down there! |

Go to Playa del Carmen..it's a nice place. If you get a chance also visit the Tulum ruins & Chichen Itza. USD and pesos are accepted everywhere. |

Hi,
Well you'll enjoy the experience for sure. This is Old Mexico and the people are very gracious and helpful. If you are staying on hotel row you will be isolated from all the other areas. I didn't care for Hotel Row, however, my bride and I had a car and we were able to drive to any location in and around Cancun. Our last trip, last week was a week on Cozumel and we really enjoyed it. Back to Cancun, the city itself is very depressed and there is a great deal of poverty, which you will not experience. You will have fun with the all-inclusive, this is all the food and drinks one could ever dream of. All the hotels have an on-site restaurant or two that require reservations and they are a little more classy than the main dinning area. So find out the reservation times and start there. My suggestion is travel to Playa del Carmen and then over to Cozumel for the day. The bus ride from the Cancun Airport is $8.00 US one way, takes about an hour, and you are a couple of blocks from the Ferry to Cozumel. The ferry is $32.00 US and they leave ever hour, the ride is about 30 minutes.
Whatever you do you'll really enjoy the beaches the water temp last week started out at 82 and went up to 84. If you are close to shore it could make 88 or even 90. They all take the dollar, the exchange rate is a little over 10 pesos per 1 dollar. You will find cheeper shopping in Playa del Carmen. The main strip along Hotel Row is expensive. I think you can grab a cab to the Airport and catch the bus to Playa del Carmen and back to Cancun Airport and then a cab ride back to your Hotel. There are tours available to all the sites around Cancun so enjoy. |

Stay far away from the beach, don't drink. Rent a car and see Mexico, the ruins, Merida, enjoy the Yucatan style cuisine. learn the history of this beautiful land and stay away from the beach resorts or anyplace where you see a lot of tourists. |
