Yes, it's totally safe. All the hotels have safes now for you to put your valuables in so you won't have to worry about employees from the hotel stealing anything. I do recommend that you take it. The ocean is very blue and taking pictures with your digital camera really brings it to life. CancĂșn is really safe. I've been going there for ten years and have never once ran into trouble or mischievous people. As with anywhere, just don't leave it sitting out somewhere like by the pool or bar. So, go ahead and take it...you will get some great photos. Have fun...CancĂșn rocks!!! |

are you talking about a golden, diamond encrusted camera? dont take it out anywhere.
if you are talking about a $350 Sony, who cares. take it to mexico. take it to the most dangerous part of your city. take it anywhere. nobody cares.

Nope - your fine. Take your digital. I recommend rechargable batteries - they are a godsend. Maybe a second memory stick - as you may take a lot of photos and might not get to e mail to dump them.
Please also remember to ask before taking a picture with a mexican ( especially the older generation. They still have some old myths about photos so always ask. |

You can keep your camera around your neck from the time you get to your airport to the time you get to your hotel. The only time you have to take it off is to get it x-rayed when you walk through the metal detector. |

Yes it's safe. I just got back from Cancun and took a $2,500 digital SLR camera. Just use common sense as others have mentioned. |

Take the digital, just keep an eye on it. And, don't ever pack it in your check on bag. My husband did that, and we never saw the bag again!! Unfortunately it had pictures of our vacation rentals that we needed. We luckily got reimbursed, but we have vacation rental condos down there, and we travel down there fairly often. It would be interesting to sometime see a local with some of my husband's special shirts on- like his Angel's World Series 2002!!!
Our condos have safes in the offices, try that also. |

Cancun has no crime and the hotel zone is like being in the US 90% English and like Vegas. No fear. I bring a lot more than my camera. |

You're probaly fine as long as you don't do something stupid. For example if you leave you camera on a bench to use the bathroom and come back 5-10 minutes later don't be surprised it's missing. But if you just have it on a string on your neck you aren't going to get mugged. Besides you'll probaly end up in the tourist side anyway. |

Yes, it is safe. I've seen people with very expensive cameras in Cancun, so your $200 dollar camera should not have any problems. Cancun is a beach resort and they make money out of tourism, and they've done a pretty much decent job it keeping everything safe, so... just go and enjoy! |

Watch out for the tourists! lol
Always keep your camera with you. Don't leave cameras, valuables lying around - e.g. beach blanket, in hotel room. There are all sorts of people - yes including tourists who would take an opportunity to lighten your load.
I have taken camera with extra lenses worth 1,000 - 2,000 USD and have no problem. |

It is not safe to take a digital camera anywhere, including in your own city if you are not going to have it in your hand, around your neck, or in a bag on your shoulder all the time. If you set it down , it will be gone. That is the same everyplace. i believe most hotels in Cancun have safes in the room, if you want to leave it there when you go out sometimes. |
