Going to Cancun, Mexico a few queries on this?

Looked at a few brochures but info is confusing!

Looking to stop at Barcelo Tucancun, Barcelo Costa Cancun or Dreams. Are these all centrally situated to shopping, eating and night life?

Is it best to take American Dollers or Mexican currency?

They mention all inclusive clubs and cover charges, does this mean you pay a set amount and all your drinks are included?

How much does stuff cost over there? Would £1000 be enough for 2 people for 2 weeks? we go out most nights and like to go on excersions.

Any help really appriciated. Will choose best answer.

Hi I went to Cancun in 2004 and I used to be a travel agent. I have heard of the Barcelo Tucancun and this is not too far from the centre of all the action and the bus service when I was there was really frequent, efficient and cheap (About 40p per ride back then!)

It's best to take American $ for things like excursions, entrance to bars/clubs and shoping malls, but take Mexican money for small shops like souvenirs and markets and snacks and stuff.

I went to three clubs that were all inclusive and we paid about $20-30 to get in and all drinks were included! And the drinks are pretty generous too!

I went on an all inclusive basis (im not sure if you are too?) and took no more than £300 for everything else which was sufficient enough for swimming with dolphins, speed boat trips and eating out about 4 times for the whole holiday. So if your all inclusive I'd say £1000 would be plenty for two people!

Have fun!!!

Im going in two weeks time, staying at Oasis Palm Beach. Ive been twice before and it is a fantastic place, brilliant. Im taking £1000 and it will be more than enough. Take US dollar traveller cheques and take, say, £50 quid in dollars cash for when you get there. There is so much to do and see, try xcaret, its fab! And the nightlife is awsome! Dont worry, youll come back and book for next year!! Enjoy!

Dont take a lot of cash. You will only be worried about it.

Take your debit card and for your exchange rate is far more favorable in Mexico
Keep in mind 1000 pounds is five months pay for some of the locals.
A.T.M.s are all over and will spit out an amount given by your bank is giving at the time plus a small fee.

There's one main street with loads of bars and shops named 5th Street. You would have to get a bus which are very cheap at about £1 regardless of distance.
All the above hotels are all inclusive which means you will have all your drinks paid for and all your meals and snacks and some sporting activities etc....basically you do not have to buy any food or drink whatsoever unless you go out of your hotel into the town. Personally i'd take $$$ but not a £1000 ($2000) you would have plenty with half of that amount. And has to how much things cost well it's a lot cheaper thta things in Spain and a touch more expensive than in American but not much.

Hia I went to Cancun in 2006 and it was brilliant we stayed at the Blue Bay Getaway which is now called Tempataions Resort ( I think) it was a great complex and provided a service which went to the clubs each night as well as being all inclusive, which most hotels are.

Me and my partner took £1000 for the fortnight and it was plenty for us, we went on a few excersions and went out every night.

We was advised to take American Dollers with us, which was fine because they are accepted everywhere.

Hope you enjoy your holiday I cant wait to go back

Greetings from Cancun!

Not sure I would recommend The Barcelo's at all the hotel Dreams is a fun place. Dreams doesn't have much of a beach but does have "great" views. I seem to always recommend the "Palace Hotels" mostly because you stay at one and can use the facilities at all via free shuttle.

What you must realize is the Hotel Zone is only 20km long shaped like a 7- with buses running every 5-min. so you are not too far away no matter where you stay.

All-inclusive : "fixed" price for the offering and everything that is included should be spelled out...somewhere. Sometimes it does not include a named brand liquor however...something for you to check on from the company.

Cover charges are the fees to get in the door sometimes includes one drink per person depending on the club.

Excursions my favorite tour company is Entertainment plus. The owner Brandt is Canadian and runs a very good company. When I have friends and family visit they always use this company for airport pickup and tours.

My daughter went there 2 years ago on her honeymoon and the first few days were great but not shopping centres, a few pubs and restaurants, the only thing they liked was swimming with dolphins and then the hurricane hit and they were in a college for a week with very little food. She still keeps in touch with the Mexican staff and they say it will be a few years before it is all back to normal.
