I was there in April. Cozumel and Costa Maya are great for snorkeling.
You have to try out the salt water pool in Costa Maya. It's located right in the middle of the shopping area. The shopping area can be covered in a little over an hour. The pool and the beach side hammocks are a must try. Don't get too comfortable and miss the boat! I'd try to book a snorkeling excursion here. The Mayan Wind catamaran and snorkel was the one we took. It was awesome. The guides were great, and they managed to show us a lot of different things. Just watch out for crabs and barracudas!
In Cozumel, there's plenty of shopping available there. Make sure you go along the courtyard that's just behind the main road when you get off the pier. There's a guy that works on the street back there that does spray can art. It's a cool process to watch. Also, make sure you look up the roads to see shops that aren't on the main street. Don't give the price they are asking. If you show that you are interested, walk away and they will start yelling cheaper prices. I bought a hammock from a street vendor. He wanted 75 dollars. I walked away and came back to pay 18 dollars for it. Don't forget to take a picture of your boat from the land. They are located right off the pier, so there are plenty of great shots of your ship.
You're going to have a blast. The last tip is to take a lot of pictures. Everyone will be asking to see them! |

Cozumel is absolutely my favorite place to vacation. If you are a scuba diver, the diving is wonderful. If not, there are lots of snorkel tours that go out to the shallower reefs. I think the park another poster referred to is actually called Chankanaab(http://www.cozumelparks.org.mx/eng/parks-chankanaab.asp). It is south of town and a very pretty place. Good snorkeling from the beach there. The drinks are cold and the food is good there too. If you continue south past Chankanaab, there is a road that takes you to the rough side, and it is beautiful (not great for swimming though). There is a light house (Punta Sur) that is pretty neat to check out. The road will eventually pass Coconuts, a cliff top restaurant. Beautiful view, good food. The road eventually turns back to town and passes the entrance to the ruins called San Gervasio. Great places to eat include Casa Denis (on the square) and Guido's (on the malecon). Caros and Charlies and Senor Frogs are fun for the evening. |

Swim with dolphins at Chankanaab (?) park. We did it a few years ago. It was one of the most AMAZING experiences of our lives. If you do it make sure you pay for the video. It is expensive but worth every penny. |

I just got back from my cruise to Costa Maya and Cozumel a few weeks ago. It was my first cruise and I loved it. I went with a bunch of lady friends. We did a lot of shopping and bargaining. We took the Mayan ruins tour in Costa Maya. In Cozumel we went Sea Treking. It was awesome! You put this helmet on your head that delivers air and you walk out from shore into the Carribean until you are 20 feet under the surface, you get to hold and touch the sea life and it is really facinating. We also got to go snorkeling with this excursion. Believe me it was something I will never forget. I talked my husband into going at Christmas, we are taking his son who is 24 and his daughter who is 23 and her husband with us. We leave Christmas Eve for a five day cruise. I can't wait for them to experience being on a cruise. The ship is wonderful, the food is great, and everyone is very nice and courteous. There is a flea market in Cozumel, shop there you'll get great prices. When you see the big flag of Mexico go straight across the flea market is a block down you can't miss it. Have a wonderful trip. |

The park named Garrafon, Snorkeling in the corral, scuba diving. My brother-in-law works there in one of the hotels as a diving instructor/tour guide, I don’t remember the name of the new hotel that he works at right now though. There are a lot of dive shops there though. The ancient ruins are interesting too. Lots of beach… |

Hi,
Once you Port at Cozumel you are right in town.
There is more than enough shopping in San Miguel, you can shop til you drop, you will find all the souvenirs you could ever want here. There is even a Hard Rock Cafe, Senior Frogs, and other spots in town. Depending on the time you have. Try and take a tour to the Mayan Ruins at Chita Itza. It's an all day trip but worth all the time. Plus you'll have a guide that will show you all the sites and explain the lore. This is the hub of Mayan, Toltech civilization on the Yucatan.
Next, if you don't have all the time you might need you can tour the Mayan ruins on Cozumel, not far from town, talk it up with other guest and split a cab ride.
Try the water park Chenkanab, or close to this. This is a place you can get close to sea animals and even swim with the Dolphins.
If you've never been in the water, ocean, or sea, try snorkeling some of the close areas to the ship. You can ask for help from someone on board that can give you the best place to go. Cozumel is one of the top dive sites in the world, warm, clear, water.
Good luck and have fun. |
