HELP! going to Cancun for first time. Taking wife and leaving our 5 kids at home. Opinions on best places?

Ok, first EVER vacation with no kids. we are both early thirties. would appreciate very much any input on best places to stay. All inclusive or not? hmmm will we eat/drink that much? not sure. Budget concious, but rather pay a little more for quality than stay in a dump.

Thanks you guys

Mexican Rivera Maya. Iberostar Grand Paraiso , Adults only, Very up scale. Butler in every wing.
A little down is the Iberostar Paraiso Maya. There is a Golf course, Dance club and exercise club all on site.

Good for the two of you. The Le Blanc Spa is really nice!! And there is golf if you like that kind of thing. The Crown Paradise Club is a little less. The Bardelo is amazing.

Don't drink the water, order bottle water, and don't brush your teeth with the water... use BOTTLE water. Always.

Look into the resort called Dreams. We are looking into this one for our honeymoon next year. Not only is it all inclusive, they offer rooms with private jacuzzi's on the balcony. The pricing is not overly expensive, but a tad more then some.

Looking through my travel magazine i just got from my agent the other day, here are some that look nice:

Le Blanc
Sun Palace
Melia Turquesa
Gran Costa Real
Gran Caribe Real
Crown Paradise Resort

Just an fyi...we stayed in Puerto Vallarta Mexico at the Golden Crown Paradise and it was great having all inclusive. Free room service at nights, free breakfast in bed, lots of resturants to chose from and etc on the resort. We've known people to stay at all inclusives anon all inclusives. The ones who stayed at the nons, say they wont do that route again since they paid more.

There's a lot of places to eat and to enjoy in Cancun. All inclusives are mostly for people that aren't going to leave the hotel, meaning, be at the beach all day. It has it's advantages, because you don't need to spend any money on food outside the hotel, and just use it for shopping or clubbing wich isn't cheap.

Riu Palace is a very good hotel.

Me cancun. This hotel is very new, incredible ambiance, excellent service. It would be good for a couple in their 30's.

Coral Beach. Fiesta Americana. One of the best beaches in Cancun. Also very good service. It's near the main attraction area a.k.a. the best clubs.

Hilton Cancun. Swimming Pool, Golf Course, Fitness Center, Spa/Massage, Broadband Access, Hot Tub, Tennis, Whirlpool Bath, Water Skiing, Jogging Track.

Those are hotels I know. There are also very good restaurants. If you want to experience something other than chain food, visit the Thai, must make a reservation. Great vibe in the nights and you can see a dolphin tank over there.

Generally anything 3 stars and over in cancun is ok.
the place is super safe as the mexicans watch out for tourists big time, but still dont go to 'dumb areas' of which there are out of the tourist zone.
if yuo dont go to all inclusive, there is excellent shopping out of the tourist zone which includes at least 4 major mexican supermarket chains, Mexicana, Chedrui, etc plus WalMart and Sams Club. All sell booze of any sort, plus wonderful amounts of affordable food, this is at mexican pricing.
We rent a condo there and enjoy it a lot.
Plastic is taken almost everywhere, ATMs abound, phones to home, internet is most affordable in Cancun, the tourist zone is VERY pricy.
Have fun, email if you want,
Neil.

Me and my husband went to the Rui Palace the first week of October and it was great. We left our 4 kids home and we had a great time. The hotel is right in the middle of town easy access to the malls, restaurants and night life. The hotel has 5 restaurants to choose from 4 bars and a stage show every night. The hotel staff were very nice were always there for all your needs. In my opinion Rui Palace is the perfect vacation destination!!
