Mexico City is a great city to visit. It has great museums, historic places, fun bars, great restaurants, a decent park, many close towns to visit.
However moving around the city is extremely tricky because of the traffic (a 15 minute ride could take you easily two hours at the wrong time of day.) Also like any other major city it has a good share of crime.
With all its bad points, I still like to visit it. I definitely would not like to live there again, but visits are fine. It is difficult to compare it to any other place, so when you ask if not Mexico City where? If you like big cities, if you are comfortable in a crowded places, if you are comfortable immerse in a Latin culture speaking Spanish, you will have the time of your life.
I would definitely encourage you not to drive there. Do not take a taxi from the street. Do not flash camera, expensive watch or jewelry, do not flash cash. But have fun. |

too crowded and to much pollution, i like the Pacific coast much better , and the people are more help full and friendlier but that goes with the country side of Mexico compared to any large city |

If you have a choice, you should go somewhere other than Mexico City. I recommend you instead visit a beach resort city (i.e. Puerto Vallarta, Acapulco, Cancún, Zihuatanejo, Mazatlán) or some other big city (i.e. Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Cuernavaca). Mexico City has much to offer, but it's always been a hassle for me. It's too big and confusing to navigate and the cops there seem to be the most corrupt in the country. On various road trips throughout Mexico, passing through Mexico City is invariably a major hassle for me, so I avoid it if I can. |

I absolutely agree with Mad Mex, Mexico City is great and beautiful, but I would add something: If you wish to enjoy Mexico City, the best time to visit it is when the most of Mexicans are on vacation. Many of their habitants run away as soon as they have three or more days free, so it can be less crowded. Any way, if you go and do not like the city, you can go anywhere you want from there. |

Yes, I think it is a beautiful city where you can find everything you need very easily... but I like Southeast Mexico much better...there is more vegetation, sceneries are beautiful and it is much more peaceful and safer. |

i didn't care for it because i felt unsafe, and also the traffic was SO bad that i can't imagine living there and dealing with it everyday. it just has TOO many people for me. it was overwhelmingly large.
a city i really love is guadalajara. and the reason is that it's very similar to mexico city in that it's large, modern, you can get what you need there (clothes, medical care, etc...) but it's not overcrowded like mexico city and to me, i felt much safer and more relaxed in guadalajara. |

Mexico City is horrible. Croweded, smoggy and dangerous. Anywhere is better than there. |
