Has anyone ever been to tijuana alone from san diego?

my friend might not be able to take me on a day trip there, so im thinking to go alone. is there a train from san diego to there? is it relatively safe to go there alone, just visiting the tourist spots? any other tips would also be helpful.

Mrs. Obama rules!
No, Tijuana is not safe. havent you seen all the news about missing girls, etc? Then you have the drug cartel in Tijuana. If there's no strong reason you should go there, avoid it at all costs, specially if you're going alone. This trip sound crazy....

Good advice from all of the above! If you do end up going alone, watch to see where the crowds of Americans are going, and join up with one of the groups just as you cross. Stick with a group as there is safety in numbers. Who knows, you may make a new friend in the process. After you are done shopping, find another group going back and walk with them. You can't miss them--suntanned Americans all carrying bags, blankets, booze and wearing the silly hats.

edgar(back for now) lol.
yeah, just stay in the tourist spots. and if your out late dont carry alot of money with you and get a cab everywhere.

If you have a car just drive down and leave your car at the border and walk across. If you have to, there are buses that will go down, and there are also tours. If I were going alone, I would definately go with a tour, particularly if I didn't speak the language. Do not take a lot of cash, and be very wary of strangers. Don't count too much on the police to help you either, because Mexican police officers are well known for being corrupt. Really the best thing to see in TJ is the Avenida Revolucion, which sells a variety of souvenirs during the day and really comes alive at night when the clubs open. The best places to go are further south, Rosarito and Puerto Escondido. Rosarito is a popular nightlife location if you've ever heard of Senor Frogs, they are based there. Puerto Escondido is also known as the Lobster Village, and if you like seafood this is the place to go. There is also a place called La Buffadora, but it's more accessible by car. Be careful!

Hi there,

Is there any particular reason to visit TJ????

I have family living there and have been around a couple of times (Have not really found anything special!).

It is quite an ugly town... The interesting side of it would be to visit one of the most controversial cities in Mexico in matter of Borders. Lot of people, from different nationalities, cross to the States in TJ (legally or not) for many reasons.

Right in the border is a quite impressive area where as you drive you can see a lot of paintings of crosses representing all the people who have given their lives trying to migrate for better...

So considering common sense, it is perfectly OK to go on a day trip if you stay within the touristic area, don't walk to lonely streets, stay with the people and look after your belongings...

Personally, I consider TJ a bit depressing, violent, contrasting and do not see it as a day trip but more like a family-obligated visit...

If may I suggest... Santa Monica is a nice, quiet and fun place to visit...
