I used to live there. It is a great place to visit also. If you do go, public transportation is cheap and easily accessible, so no need to rent a vehicle unless you are planning on doing some exploring of the outskirts of the area.
Everything is close by unless you stay in Nuevo Vallarta, which is about a 15 or 20 minute bus or cab ride. To the north of Puerto Vallarta, you'll find the marina where all the big yachts and cruise ships are and airport area. If you happen to be by there, stop by Captain Morgan's at the marina, great place to visit if you enjoy the marina atmosphere.
The down town area and its old architecture is beautiful and has many restaurants and shops, along with the market where you can get just about anything native to the area.
To the south is more dense jungle and remote beach areas, along with a creek side restaurant where they filmed the movie "Predator". Last time I was there, some of the movie props are still there, including a helicopter wreckage now surrounded by dense jungle vegetation and plenty of Arnold memorabilia.

It is beautiful, a perfect 10! Locals are very friendly, all tourism areas are clean and safe, easy & cheap bus transportation. Plan to spend a full day downtown shopping in the markets and walking along the boardwalk. Food is great and water is safe to drink. After my 1st visit (been thre 3 times) I avoided any boat tours as the Pacific ocean is quite rough with a strong current. Most everyone I have ever talked to that have been to PV say they would definitely go back again. Enjoy! |

I have been to el porto viarta ............its on the pacific coast .......I went there with the whole family...we stayed in a hotel on the beach......all inclusive...,,absolutly first class five stars for the price of two..........the beaches, people, excurtions are all wonderful........particulary whale watching with geographical magazine approved (small boat ) but very well organised and knowledgeable.......dont miss it! the town is great...if you travel by local bus it too is a remarcable expereince that you,ll never forget!!!!!!!! the night-life is remarkable too, but only go to those that are reccomended by your local rep..............it is a very pretty place with lots to see ,do,taste and enjoy |

I just traveled to Puerto Vallarta for spring break last month and it was my favorite place ever! I've been to Cabo San Lucas and Cancun and so far Puerto Vallarta has been the best. It was a clean city with extremely friendly people that all spoke pretty good english. The weather was perfect, not too hot but not cold of course. There's a lot of things to do. We went horseback riding one day, we also did a doone buggy tour, and went on a canopy zip line through the forest. There's also some amazing restaurants that I'd be more than welcome to give you the names of. And of course like all cities there's lot of clubs and bars to go to that are all fun at night, like Senor Frogs and so on. Anyways on a scale of 1 to 10 I'd give Puerto Vallarta a big 10! |

My family, and many friends, just returned from Nuevo Vallarta, which is about 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. The weather was sunny and 80s everyday. The beaches aren't white sand, and the water isn't turquois blue like the caribbean side of Mexico. However, the view of the Sierra Madres and the ocean was amazing. Sunsets are beautiful too. We all agreed it was the prettiest scenery that we have seen during our spring flings to warmer weather. I would rate the area a 10!...and can't wait to return! Have fun! |

Puerto Vallarta is definitely a 9. Also worth visiting near there are Tenacatita, Nuevo Vallarta, Punta Mita, Careyes, Chamela, Tamararindos, Isla Navidad... Mexican Pacific is kilometers and kilometers of beautiful beaches, towns, culture and people |
